2025: In a historic moment for Montessori education, the California State Senate unanimously approved Bill SCR 17 on Thursday, February 20th, officially recognizing February as Montessori Month. During the proposal, key Montessori values were shared with the Senate, garnering strong support for the philosophy’s impact on education. Katey and Melanie remain committed to advocating for an aligned pathway between Montessori Teaching Credentials and California Teaching Credentials, further solidifying Montessori education within the state’s educational framework. This year brings even greater significance in California with SR 69, which offers special recognition to public charter Montessori schools across our state. This acknowledgment affirms what we see every day in our classrooms: Montessori education nurtures independence, critical thinking, academic excellence, and peaceful citizenship in ways that prepare children not just for school, but for life.

Executive Director of Curriculum
Melanie Brown serves as Executive Director of Curriculum, bringing extensive expertise in Montessori pedagogy, instructional leadership, and standards alignment. She holds an EdD in Educational Leadership (All But Dissertation) and is credentialed in both Elementary I/II and Secondary I/II Montessori education. She earned her Master’s degree in Montessori Education and Common Core State Standards, along with her California Teaching Credential and Administrative Credential.
Melanie serves as Director of Montessori Curriculum for the California Montessori Project, the largest public charter Montessori organization in the nation. In this role, she leads the integration of Montessori scope and sequence with state standards to ensure rigor, coherence, and equity across classrooms.
An Area 3 Writing Project Fellow and five-time presenter at the American Montessori Society (AMS) Annual Conference, Melanie is recognized nationally for her work in curriculum design, literacy development, and innovative instructional systems that preserve Montessori integrity while meeting contemporary educational expectations.
Her leadership is grounded in a commitment to academic excellence, teacher development, and ensuring every learner has access to meaningful, standards-aligned Montessori experiences.
Director of Operations
Katey Dodd serves as Director of Operations, where she bridges Montessori philosophy with systems-level implementation and instructional design. She holds a PhD in Instructional Design (All But Dissertation), along with dual Master’s degrees in Montessori Education and Instructional Leadership. She is credentialed in Elementary I/II and Secondary I/II Montessori education and holds both a California Teaching Credential and Administrative Credential.
Katey serves as Director of Montessori Implementation for the California Montessori Project, leading large-scale systems alignment to ensure Montessori practices are implemented with fidelity across diverse public school environments.
She holds certifications in Culturally Responsive Teaching and Universal Design for Learning (UDL), strengthening her work in creating equitable, inclusive learning systems that support all students. A four-time presenter at the American Montessori Society Annual Conference, Katey shares her expertise nationally on Montessori implementation, innovation, and instructional design.
Her work centers on operational excellence, culturally responsive systems, and scalable Montessori structures that empower educators while maintaining authenticity to Montessori principles.

The mission of the Modern Montessori Teacher Education College is to provide a quality 21st century program for adult learners who will feel inspired to become professionals in the field of elementary Montessori education through mastering a modern program.
The vision of the Modern Montessori Teacher Education College is to maintain the authentic, didactic, holistic program developed by Maria Montessori while integrating 21st century methodology in order to reach teachers locally and internationally.
Staying true Montessori, our curriculum prepares the adult learner to guide the child through the 6-12 plane of development with mastery of Montessori Materials and prepared lessons and extensions, created with Modern Montessori TEC.
Modern Montessori provides a mostly online, modern approach to learning. Through asynchronous and synchronous learning, work with a PLC and developing an online-portfolio, Montessori adult learners will create explore a modern approach to Maria Montessori's curriculum and philosophy.
In response to the evolving needs of education, MMTEC is thrilled to introduce a dynamic asynchronous course, Inclusive Classrooms: Building Bridges for All Learners. This comprehensive course merges the timeless principles of the Montessori framework with modern inclusive practices, offering a rich, multi-dimensional learning experience.
The course covers an extensive range of topics, including:
The history of Montessori's pedagogical model for inclusive practices.
Strategies for supporting children with disabilities in Montessori classrooms.
-Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS).
-Education for Peace principles.
-Key differences between accommodations and modifications, and how to apply the "Grid of 9" effectively.
-In-depth analysis of how the Montessori curriculum can be adapted to support learners with diverse needs using tools like the 3-period lesson across subject areas.
-This course bridges foundational elementary concepts with advanced secondary practices, ensuring a broad spectrum of applicability for educators across all levels.
We are confident that Inclusive Classrooms: Building Bridges for All Learners will inspire and empower educators to create truly inclusive environments that honor the needs of every student.

Overview of Elementary and Secondary Montessori Course:
Adult learners will have access to our online course that offers an overview of the core fundamental aspects of the Montessori philosophy and environment, strengthening their understanding of Montessori and better preparing them to support all students in the Montessori environment.
Montessori curriculum works as a spiral; starting at the preschool level, and building on itself throughout the years.
Administrators, Special Education staff, Teachers assistants, Secondary teachers and more who have a core understanding of the elementary components of Montessori will be better equipped to offer the full Montessori curriculum to all of their students.
